the other day i realized that if i had been born (and raised) in a third-world country, i would probably be dead by now.
my farsighted and asthmatic body with its ineffective immune system would not have lasted past childhood, save for the health care i've always had access to.
to think of things that way is heartwrenching...not simply because i like the fact that i'm still alive, but because there are thousands and thousands of children who die all the time from easily treatable things. thousands and thousands of children who really just need an inhaler and a pair of glasses, for goodness' sake.
on a lighter note, i babysit for two little girls named isabela and saree. bela is four and likes to make videos. lately she likes to stories about Jesus, but she is four and she gets confused:
"mary and joseph were staying in a stable and one time they were holding baby Jesus. baby Jesus! you're the newborn one! and mary and joseph decided to give mary her very very own special baby named Jesus. that was very good!"
"saree and me were very very happy to have a new baby of the kingdom in Jerusalem of the Bible! with me and saree together, a happily ever after story."
